Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) announced today (5/29) it has closed on the sale of its 15% participating interest in the Atrush Block in Kurdistan, where first quarter 2019 production averaged 2,400 net barrels of oil equivalent per day (100% oil). As previously disclosed, this divestiture represents a complete country exit for Marathon Oil. The field was first discovered in 2011 and production started in 2017. In its two years of production, the Atrush field has produced of 17 million barrels of oil, with increasing efficiency. In May 2019, TAQA Iraq completed the acquisition of an additional 7.5% working interest in the Atrush block from Marathon Oil KDV B.V. interest in the Atrush Block from Marathon Oil KDV B.V. (“MOKDV”). ShaMaran is pleased to announce that it and TAQA Atrush BV (“TAQA”), Operator of the Atrush Block, have agreed jointly to acquire from Marathon its 15% participating interest in the Atrush Block held through MOKDV in equal proportions of 7.5%. TAQA Atrush operates and holds a 39.9% stake in the Atrush block. ShaMaran Petroleum, via its subsidiary General Exploration Partners, owns a 20.1% interest.
